The NGO Committee on Ageing in New York, (NGOCOA-NY) works to raise world awareness of the opportunities and challenges of global ageing. It is affiliated with the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (CoNGO).
Committee membership is open to individuals as well as those persons who represent organizations in formal status with the United Nations.
Members meet throughout the year for presentations on critical priorities and issues under discussion at the United Nations, such as the 5-year review and appraisal of the 2002 Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), and discussions of the Open-ended Working Group on Ageing on the feasibility of a convention to protect the rights of older persons.
The Committee also organizes special events to which the public is invited, notably the International Day of Older Persons (UNIDOP) held annually in October.
